Military officers of Myanmar has a lower salary scales. Myanmar Army officers starting salary is about 120,000 kyat. Most of the profitable businesses and wealth are in the hands of the generals. Due to long-term junta rule in Burma military officers established unabated control over country’s natural resources, businesses and other facilities.  But such phenomena normal for the generals. Mid-level and junior officers do odd things, like drug smuggling, capture of civilian businesses and so many. And this is a normal trend in Burma. While neighboring countries has implemented more modern structure within their militaries. And created the world class professionalism.

Bangladesh Air Force apparently finalized the candidate for the dedicated attack helicopter program. And, it will be the Russian Helicopters Mi-35M. This helicopter is a combat proven rotary wing platform and can carry 8 troops too. Initially eight examples will be delivered to the BAF. Acquiring Mi-35M helicopters will reduce maintenance burdens of the BD Air Force because there are a fleet of 35 Mi-171Sh which also has some same components as the Mi-35M. Bangladesh will use these helicopters to provide close-air-support to the ground troops.  Mi-35M can carry 8 troops or 4 stretchers on its external sling. Total payload is about 2400kgs. Bangladesh Army bought a large amount Saab Group’s Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless gun system from Sweden. This is a combat proven weapons system being fielded by the dozens of armies across the globe. Upgraded M4 gun can fire a really wide range of rounds from anti-tank to anti-bunker shells. This is very light and easy to use portable system which will surely increase Bangladesh Army’s field fire power, especially, in the frontier regions.  Saab AB shows Bangladesh is the newer user of this latest weapons system in their infographic. Ramu Cantonment of Bangladesh Army is located in the southern part of Bangladesh at Ukhia, Cox’s Bazaar. This is a new military station which hosts the newly formed 10th Infantry Division. Ramu Cant. is a strategically important base. Currently necessary infrastructure are being built to host various units & brigades.  New recruitments also in place to fulfill the expansion process. Ramu Cant being set up under the Forces Goal – 2030 modernization & expansion program of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. It’ll provide ultimate security to countless of very important civil-military installations and areas in the Chittagong region.

Bangladesh Army evaluating to buy advanced heavy main battle tank and light tanks. Currently there are several options for light tanks, which weighs under 35 tons. Chinese VT-5 is one of the progressive contestant.  On the other hand Russian T-90MS, Chinese VT-4 or MBT-3000 and Ukrainian Oplot-M MBTs are the options for the heavy MBTs.

Myanmar army has 11 Hwasong-6 short-range tactical ballistic missiles in its inventory. They bought these weapons system from North Korea somewhere in 90s. Hwasong-6 is a derivative of the Soviet era Scud Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM). Soviet Union sold those to the N. Korean regime in 80s and Pyongyang made their own variant.  Experts belief that as many as 1,000 Hwasong-6 were manufactured and almost half of them were exported to various countries worldwide. Burmese military junta bought 11 of them. These Hwasong-6 missiles won’t give burma a clean chit security but their military would get a sense of security. These missiles poses no greater threat but civilian casualty is a must concern for neighbors. Bangladesh Army Signed Deal for New Anti-Tank Weapons.  Several deals has been signed with different eastern European countries for the new anti-tank weapons. This package includes long-range anti-tank rocket propelled grenade launchers, short-range anti-tank weapons, short-range anti-tank guided missiles and long-range anti-tank guided missiles etc. The number of these systems are large, though, not confirmed. Bangladesh Army attack helicopter procurement, Leonardo A129 is an option. Italian defense equipment manufacturer Leonardo Company offered it A129 International attack helicopter to Bangladesh Army. Attack helicopters are modern army’s aerial warfare backbone and Leonardo’s A129 combat helicopter is one of the most sophisticated chopper in its class.  It is a combat proven platform. A129 also dubbed as AW129, sometimes. Italian Army operating 59 of them and deployed worldwide operations. This attack helo can operate in hot desert conditions, cold weather, and tropical humid weather. If Bangladesh Army go for A129 then they can get logistics, training, maintenance and spare supports easily.

Bangladesh Army bought 18 batteries of Chinese WS-22A guided multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) manufactured by the China Aerospace Long-March International. WS-22A MLRS is piece of massive firepower which can engage targets like military base, ground radar stations, command & communication centers, naval base, armored divisions etc.  Initially Bangladesh Army (BA) equipped its infantry divisions and in coming years every single infantry unit will equipped with such guided rocket system. Moreover, those MLRS systems will be manufactured in home by the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) and Bangladesh Ordinance Factory (BOF). Burmese army torched almost 100 rohingya people villages in myanrmar. Recently anti-Rohingya operation created massive Rohingya refugee flow towards Bangladesh. Burma’s main weapons and military equipment supplier is China. India and Israel are positioned at, respectively, second & third. Peace loving world community urged to these countries not to sell weapons to burmese army. United States, Australia and European Union countries don’t sell military equipment to myanmar army.  Except china, india and Israel others like Russia, North Korea, Japan, Pakistan also sold weapons & military equipment to burmese military junta in the past few years.  China selling fighter jets, military transport aircrafts, warships, missiles, artillery guns, main battle tanks, small and medium weapons, electronic surveillance equipment etc. China also provides some military technologies to burmese army. Bangladesh Army (BA) converted 22 Type 62 light tanks into light howitzer cannon with an Italian Oto Merla Mod56 105mm howitzer gun. All conversion processes has been done in Bangladesh by the BA engineers and technicians. Bangladesh bought a total of 320 Type 62 light tanks from China most of which are now out of service. Among them 14 are in service with upgrades, 14 were converted to APC and other 22 has been converted to Type 62 light self-propelled howitzer gun.

According to Directorate General Defense Purchase (DGDP) Bangladesh Army going to buy a large number of 105mm self-propelled howitzer cannon from any country who are manufacturing advanced high-tech SPH. Those SPH guns must be capable of firing any NATO standard rounds and should be equipped with ballistic protected crew cabin. DGDP is the purchasing authority of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh Army will evaluate tracked, wheeled and truck-mounted systems to standardize the gun on country’s terrain and weather condition. How many SPH cannons will be procured it is not still clear, though the number would be large.  Under the “Forces Goal – 2030” Bangladesh Army emphasizes on mobility and fire power. Field artillery is the main firing potential of any army. Hence BA wants to build a handsome regiments of modern advanced self-propelled howitzer guns of various caliber.
