Due to long-term junta rule in Burma military officers established unabated control over country’s natural resources, businesses and other facilities.  But such phenomena normal for the generals. Mid-level and junior officers do odd things, like drug smuggling, capture of civilian businesses and so many. And this is a normal trend in Burma. CONFIRMED: Mi-35M Going-To-Be the Dedicated Attack Helicopter of Bangladesh Air Force!

Bangladesh Air Force apparently finalized the candidate for the dedicated attack helicopter program. And, it will be the Russian Helicopters Mi-35M. This helicopter is a combat proven rotary wing platform and can carry 8 troops too. Initially eight examples will be delivered to the BAF. Acquiring Mi-35M helicopters will reduce maintenance burdens of the BD Air Force because there are a fleet of 35 Mi-171Sh which also has some same components as the Mi-35M. Bangladesh will use these helicopters to provide close-air-support to the ground troops.  Mi-35M can carry 8 troops or 4 stretchers on its external sling. Total payload is about 2400kgs. Bangladesh Army bought a large amount Saab Group’s Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless gun system from Sweden. This is a combat proven weapons system being fielded by the dozens of armies across the globe. Myanmar army has 11 Hwasong-6 short-range tactical ballistic missiles in its inventory. They bought these weapons system from North Korea somewhere in 90s. Hwasong-6 is a derivative of the Soviet era Scud Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM). Soviet Union sold those to the N. Korean regime in 80s and Pyongyang made their own variant.  Experts belief that as many as 1,000 Hwasong-6 were manufactured and almost half of them were exported to various countries worldwide. Burmese military junta bought 11 of them. These Hwasong-6 missiles won’t give burma a clean chit security but their military would get a sense of security. These missiles poses no greater threat but civilian casualty is a must concern for neighbors. Attack helicopters are modern army’s aerial warfare backbone and Leonardo’s A129 combat helicopter is one of the most sophisticated chopper in its class.  It is a combat proven platform. A129 also dubbed as AW129, sometimes. Italian Army operating 59 of them and deployed worldwide operations. Bangladesh Made Howitzer Gun: Bangladesh Army Type 62 Self-Propelled Howitzer

Bangladesh Army (BA) converted 22 Type 62 light tanks into light howitzer cannon with an Italian Oto Merla Mod56 105mm howitzer gun. All conversion processes has been done in Bangladesh by the BA engineers and technicians. Bangladesh bought a total of 320 Type 62 light tanks from China most of which are now out of service. Among them 14 are in service with upgrades, 14 were converted to APC and other 22 has been converted to Type 62 light self-propelled howitzer gun.

According to Directorate General Defense Purchase (DGDP) Bangladesh Army going to buy a large number of 105mm self-propelled howitzer cannon from any country who are manufacturing advanced high-tech SPH. Those SPH guns must be capable of firing any NATO standard rounds and should be equipped with ballistic protected crew cabin. DGDP is the purchasing authority of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh Army will evaluate tracked, wheeled and truck-mounted systems to standardize the gun on country’s terrain and weather condition. How many SPH cannons will be procured it is not still clear, though the number would be large.  Under the “Forces Goal – 2030” Bangladesh Army emphasizes on mobility and fire power. Field artillery is the main firing potential of any army. Hence BA wants to build a handsome regiments of modern advanced self-propelled howitzer guns of various caliber.
