Bangladesh Navy Anibran 2018 teaser has been published for the public distribution. This year’s Navy Anibran program exclusively covered up the submarines. It will show activities of the Bangladesh Navy SWADS, special tasks forces, multination naval exercises in the Bay of Bengal and many others. Bangladesh Navy setting up a new naval base at Patuakhali. This new base will host surface combatant and submarine berthing as well as a naval aviation facilities. Location of the base is in the Rabnabad channel. This naval base will be the biggest of its kind in the country. The Navy’s own air base will surely bolster operational capabilities of the navy. The name of the base has been settled ‘BNS Sher-E-Bangla’. Currently construction process going on in full speed.

Bangladesh Navy has a rigorous training program of its newly recruited officer cadets. New recruits must pass successfully through various phases of the training processes. It includes physical, mental, educational and extensive naval warfare regimes.  Bangladesh Naval Academy is the main training facility for our navy and main parts of the training has been conducted here. It is located in the entrance point of the River Karnaphuli, Chittagong.

There are one prominent naval special operations force in Bangladesh Navy which is called Special Warfare Diving and Salvage (SWADS). Besides, there are two other Spec Ops units also, called Special Boat Service and ODD-71. SWADS are the main naval special warfare branch of Bangladesh Navy.  SWADS been formed under supervision of the U.S. Navy SEALs and accordingly. SWADS’s training as same as Navy SEALs. Their weapons and other gears are also in line with the U.S. SEALs. Bangladesh Navy send their SWADS trainees to the Turkey, South Korea too for training along with U.S. Navy’s Coronado Naval Special Warfare Training Center.  The SWADS are operating in home and abroad to attain the national security goals of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Navy currently serving a United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Lebanon. The mission dubbed as United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Bangladesh Navy guided missile frigate BNS Ali Haider and large patrol craft BNS Nirmul has been deployed in the Mediterranean Sea as the Lebanon mission. BN is the third navy serving in that area. First BNS Osman and BNS Madhumati was deployed.  BN gaining valuable operational experiences by serving in the UNPK Missions in various parts of the world. Many of them are volatile. By providing in the UN Missions Bangladesh also earning much needed foreign currencies which helping country’s economy.

Bangladesh commissioned first home-made ASW warship BNS Durgam into active service. BNS Durgam is a Durjoy-class semi-stealth Anti-Submarine Warfare large patrol craft (LPC) of Bangladesh Navy built by the Khulna Shipyard Limited. A shipbuilder from China provided technical assistances to make the ship. This is the first Bangladesh made ASW warship. Two ship in the class has been commissioned by the Honorable President of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh Advocate Abdul Hamid yesterday.  BNS Durgam ship design is the downsized version of the Chinese PLAN Type 056 stealth corvette. First two ships of this class was built china for Bangladesh Navy. Then china transfer the technology to Khulna Shipyard Limited. Dockyard & Engineering Works Limited or DEW Ltd is a Bangladeshi shipbuilding industry operating by the Bangladesh Navy, located in Narayanganj. This shipyard builds inshore patrol vessels, harbor patrol crafts, coast guard patrol crafts, landing craft utility, landing craft tanks, medium cargo vessels and high-speed boats. DEW Ltd targeted to build 6,000 DWT ship within 2020. This is the oldest shipyard in Bangladesh, established in 1922. Various types naval ships being built in DEW and in future some larger warships also will built as per the plan.  Bangladesh needs to boost its naval warship building capabilities throughout all the shipbuilding industries the country has. Bangladesh have to protect vast amount of territorial sea waters in the Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh Navy will get AW159 Wildcat Helicopters in last of 2017. Bangladesh modernizing its armed forces under the “Forces Goal – 2030” upgradation program.  This helicopter has Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) and Over-The-Horizon-Targeting (OTHT) capabilities.  AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat has been in operational with British Royal Navy, Royal Army, South Korean Military, & Philippines Navy.  Bangladesh Navy is also operating two Dornier Do-228NG Maritime Patrol Aircraft from Germany. Two AW109 SAR helicopters built by the Italian Leonardo Company.  Bangladesh will also get some few utility and ASW helicopters soon.
