Defense Update Bangladesh

Bangladesh Armed Forces has several military agreements with different countries. This video shows a glimpse of those defense pacts Bangladesh has done with her allies.

Bangladesh Armed Forces is the second biggest customer of the Chinese military equipment. Most of the equipment of Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy is Chinese! Why? Well, after the independence of Bangladesh, it was a very weak nation in terms of economy & politics. Billions of dollars were donated from overseas donors to build a nation upon a ruin. But, pathetically, most of those money and assistance been engulfed by the leaders of the then Bangladesh Awami League and their family members.  As a direct result Bangladesh faced the worst famine of the 70s. People starved to death and humanity died. On the other hand, government wasn’t aware about the poor quality of equipment of Bangladesh Armed Forces.  Until 1976 Bangladesh Armed Forces was weak. DGDP, Bangladesh ordered two LCT for Army. These contract was awarded to Western Marine Shipyard Ltd. LCTs are the vessels carry and land main battle tanks, APCs, IFVs, ACVs and many military vehicles. Bangladesh Army’s LCTs can be able to carry 200 soldiers along with 40 officers, while it’s main role of carrying MBTs are 8 in number. A deal was signed between managing director of WMS and Deputy Director Purchase (Army Wing-1) Col. Chowdhury Fazle Ali. Total program costs around 770 million BDT. These Landing Craft Tanks are 64 meter in length. Can operate in the stormy shores of Bangladesh and riverine regions too. These vessels will boost Bangladesh Army’s combat operational capabilities into a new height. In future more LCTs will be built in home. China giving $1 billion to Bangladesh Air Force to buy Chengdu J-10B, Y-20 heavy lift transport aircraft and many more. A Russian blog and East Pendulum twitter account tweeted that Bangladesh and China negotiating each-other for $1 bn arms deal almost all of which is related to aircrafts. China offered 16 Chengdu J-10B, 1 Xian Y-20 heavy lift military transport aircraft, 1 Shaanxi KJ-200 AEW&C aircraft, and 7 K-8W Karakorum intermediate jet trainer aircrafts to Bangladesh Air Force.    China trying to counter india’s $500 million loan to Bangladesh to buy Russian weapons.
